Chem-E-Car Goes to Nationals '24
This October, the McMaster Chem-E-Car team had the amazing opportunity to compete at the AICh National Conference in San Diego, California!
Representing Canada on the international stage was an unforgettable experience for our team.
We’re proud to share that our car, MacVerstoppen, won Best Car Name and our team won Best Sportsmanship Award!
These wins reflect the hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm our team brings to everything we do.
The conference was more than just a competition—it was a chance to meet other passionate chemical engineering students, learn from their approaches, and share ideas. It was inspiring to see the innovation and dedication on display from teams around the world.
We couldn’t have done this without the support of our sponsors: McMaster Engineering Society, McMaster Faculty of Engineering, DigiKey and Circuits Central Inc. A huge thank you also goes to our faculty advisor Vincent Leung and lab supervisors Timothy Stephens and Lisa Laframboise for their support throughout the season.
Lastly, a big shoutout to every member of the team for their dedication and teamwork—it’s been a season full of growth, challenges, and great memories.

On April 6, the team competed in the North Central Regionals at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. We are so proud to announce that McMaster’s car MacVerstoppen placed 1st in the poster competition, and 7th in the performance competition.
We met many other dedicated teams at the event and were proud to represent Canada as the only Canadian team present. We want to thank our sponsors, McMaster Engineering Society, McMaster Chem Eng Society, McMaster University Faculty of Engineering, Shapeways, and Septodont for their help in our success. We would also like to thank the staff and faculty, including our faculty advisor Vincent Leung and our lab supervisors Timothy Stephens and Doug Keller, for their continued support.
